A custom CMS and client-site system

Replaced a closed rented platform with an owned CMS. 5+ client sites shipped, now an active retainer.

The situation

The agency’s client sites were locked into a closed, rented platform. Every change went through someone else’s system, the agency did not own the code, and scaling to more clients meant more platform cost and less control.

What I built

  • A custom CMS on open tech, replacing the rented platform, with the agency owning the code.
  • Subdomain routing so each client site runs cleanly under the agency’s infrastructure.
  • An internal dashboard for the agency to manage projects and clients in one place.
  • A client-facing review portal so clients can see and approve work without email chains.
  • A session-tracking and analytics pipeline across every client site.

The result

Five-plus client sites shipped on the new system and an active, multi-month retainer. The agency now owns its stack, ships client work faster, and pays no platform tax.

Common questions

Why move off a rented platform?

Ownership and control: the agency now owns the code, avoids per-seat platform costs, and can ship whatever it needs.

Can this be white-labeled?

Yes. The whole system runs under the agency’s brand; its clients never see AOC.
